Better Platos powering better holistic care
For a little over 2 years now, thousands of patients living with diabetes in Nigeria have experienced whole-person care through Platos including hundreds directly treated by Platos Online Clinic. Patient outcomes have been phenomenal with several case studies and stronger evidence generation in the pipeline.
During the process, we have applied first principles to understanding the root causes of diabetes (and its comorbidity such as high blood pressure, obesity and so on) and applied science-backed, evidence-based methods to build software that patients, providers, and payers can leverage to monitor patient’s holistic health while facilitating data-driven, personalised & proactive care from anywhere.
To make Platos better accessible for millions of people living with pre-diabetes, diabetes, and high blood pressure in Nigeria, we are making a major change to how people access Platos.
Users can now pay for Platos holistic health monitoring and medical care separately.
Until now, when users buy subscription access to Platos, they get access to Platos holistic health monitoring platform and continuous medical care delivered by Platos Online Clinic. Going forward, they will still be able to enjoy the same services. However, they now have the flexibility to choose the duration of their access to Platos platform, which we call Platos Pass, separately from medical care consultations, which we call Medical care.
Besides flexibility, there are several other benefits this will bring. For example, people with pre-diabetes might prefer to work with a Dietitian only or self-manage. Customers with access to a very good hospital and clinicians might prefer to enrol on Platos while bringing their health data to their preferred doctor or clinical team from their local hospital.
What is Platos Pass?
Platos Pass gives patients and their providers monthly access to the Platos Holistic Care platform to monitor patients’ holistic health while facilitating data-driven, personalised & proactive care from anywhere. Platos Pass allows patients to
- Understand their health & monitor progress with holistic data
- Use Telehealth to access care even when not at home
- Use food & diet to improve health outcomes
- Stay motivated & form new habits with Platos Coach
- Learn to take charge of their health with resources in the comprehensive library

What is Medical Care?
Medical care is where users select the type of continuous medical support that's best for their condition, provided either by Platos Online Clinic or by clinics and hospitals across Nigeria.
Several private and public hospitals across Nigeria are already partnering with Platos to power holistic chronic disease management for their patient population. We will be sharing more info about this with the public soon.

What does this mean for patients?
For Existing Users
Patients with active paid plans do not need to do anything until their next renewal during which they can pay according to the plans mentioned above.
For New Users
Enrolling patients will now have 10 days of free trial access during which they can enjoy all the amazing features of the Platos Holistic Care platform. During and after the trial, Platos will periodically generate your health report which you can share with your preferred care provider or a family member.
What does this mean for care providers?
When patients pay for Platos Pass, they automatically give free access to their primary care providers. This means as a physician, dietitian, nurse or any medical professional that the patient has authorized, you can continue to use their holistic health data to make data-driven clinical decisions, see when they need urgent care, and connect with them from home via video calls or messages within the Platos app. This applies to care providers in the Platos Online Clinic and from 3rd party hospitals and clinics.
With this release, we are one step closer to equalizing opportunities in healthcare. Please leave us your comments on our social media channels or send us a mail at support@platoshealth.com.
